CRN: Center for Regenerative Nanomedicine

Scott, Xu honored among Chicago’s top young scientists

SQI faculty member Evan Scott and Center for Bio-Integrated Electronics (CBIE) medical director Steve Xu have been named to Halo’s 40 Under 40 list of Chicago scientists who are leading the next generation of translational research. They will be recognized at the second annual Halo Awards on October 12 at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Scott’s laboratory uses engineering and materials-based approaches to treat diseases by modulating the immune system. Specifically, the group has developed novel targeted self-assembled nanomaterials, injectable sustained-release biomaterials, and improved strategies for vaccination based upon synthetic biomimicry of pathogens.

At CBIE, Xu and his colleagues are developing bio-integrated medical devices to diagnose, monitor and treat a wide range of conditions.
