Quaggin to lead American Society of Nephrology

SQI member Susan Quaggin took over as president of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) on Jan. 1, the ASN announced in a press release.

According to the release, the society will focus during Quaggin’s term on eliminating kidney health disparities, including launching new initiatives such as a loan mitigation program for trainees underrepresented in medicine. It will also work to ensure implementation and access to life- and kidney-saving new therapies and harness transformative advances in the specialty to redefine kidney medicine.

Quaggin will lead more than 21,000 kidney professionals in her new role.

“Nephrologists are unparalleled in their ability to provide incredibly complex care that improves quality of life,” Quaggin said. “It is tremendously exciting to see these talented and committed professionals apply so many new tools to advance care and cure kidney diseases, and I look forward to leading ASN as it advances innovation and care.”

Quaggin is the Charles H. Mayo Professor of Medicine at Northwestern, the Chief of Nephrology and Hypertension in the Department of Medicine, and the Director of the Feinberg Cardiovascular and Renal Research Institute.
